About

Why WXV Needs U?

WXV Needs U is a way for listeners, alumni and community members to support WXVU as we build on all we've accomplished this academic year and continue elevating Villanova's radio presence in highlighting great University initiatives and people—to the Main Line and beyond.

What is WXVU?

89.1 WXVU, known as ‘V 89.1 The Roar,’ is Villanova University's own radio station! We’re student-run and have been broadcasting on the FM dial since 1991. Our 100-watt signal, with an antenna atop Villanova Stadium, serves the Main Line areas of Delaware, Montgomery and Chester counties. We feature over 25 weekly programs, hosted by Villanova students and offering a wide variety of music, sports, news, public affairs and specialty programming.

During the academic year of 2022-2023, WXVU reached new heights. In August 2022, we acquired the 89.1 FM signal full-time, after being in a timeshare agreement for the frequency. We improved our stream and sound quality, enhanced our website and broadcasted every Villanova football and basketball home game, including Villanova Women's Basketball NCAA Tournament run.

Our WXV&U Health Department, established with the M. Louise Fitzpatrick College of Nursing in January 2023, is the first nurse-led department in all of college radio. Villanova Nursing students are producing award-winning public service announcements and podcasts and have become a staple for WXVU!

For everyone who has contributed to the WXV Needs U campaign so far and left their name, we will be acknowledging you with a salute  during our Morning Roar program, Friday at 8:45 AM Eastern Time!  We'll also feature audio check-ins from WXVU and WKVU alumni.  If you happen to be in the Villanova area, the Morning Roar crew will be broadcasting outside at the Riley Ellipse on campus, a.k.a. the Oreo.

Listen at 89.1 FM in the Main Line, stream us at WXVU.org, or watch on our YouTube channel!  If you can't listen live, audio is posted on our podcast feed afterward.

We thank you so much for your generous contributions.  Please continue to spread the word about WXV Needs U and consider helping us surpass our goal of $6,000 by Saturday, which will greatly ensure the future success of WXVU and radio at Villanova.

Sincerely,

The WXVU Operations Team
